Saint-Gobain equips the stadium for the next FiFa world cup in Qatar

Our brands have made a huge contribution to the construction of the Al-Wakrah Stadium in Qatar.

Just over three years before the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar has inaugurated the brand new Al-Wakrah stadium near Doha. This 40,000-seat sports facility was designed by the architect Zaha Hadid, to which Saint-Gobain has made a major contribution. Kimmco-Isover provided more than 100,000 m² of glass wool to insulate water pipe and air conditioning systems. Faced with the risk of excessive heat, the stadium is equipped with an extensive ventilation system to ensure that the field temperature does not rise above 22 degrees and a roof that can be retracted in 30 minutes.

Some of the other materials installed include: 3,000 metric tons of Weber mortars for tile fixing and flooring solutions, 2,000 m² of Rigips FireStop plasterboard, and 300 m² of Vetrotech fire protection glazing. PAM also delivered 8,2km of pipes for the pipe infrastructure located next to the sports complex to deliver drinking water and collect wastewater. The Al-Wakrah stadium will host matches up to the quarter-finals of the competition.
