In Doha, the National Museum of Qatar, designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, has just opened its doors to the public. The impressive 40,000 m² building, inspired by the local desert rose, has 539 “petals” formed by thousands of interconnected concrete disks. Several Saint-Gobain solutions were selected for this challenging architectural structure. Weber supplied 900 metric tons of ready-mix mortar and Kimmco-Isover delivered 150,000 m² of glass wool to insulate the building, its air conditioning and ventilation systems, and water pipes. Awarded LEED Gold certification, this museum retraces Qatar’s history dating back 7,000 years.
